ENVISION

ENVISION homepageENVISION is a USAID-funded program that is working to reduce the burden of seven neglected tropical diseases: lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and trachoma. Its efforts are focused in Africa, and also include some of Asia and the Caribbean, where these diseases are endemic.

The ENVISION website is bilingual, including content in both English and French. This was one of the primary reasons for choosing Drupal, because Drupal is able to manage multilingual content so well.

The ENVISION team wanted the website to be useful for those working daily with NTDs, as well as more casual visitors. One way we achieved this is through "Spotlight" items. These tell human interest stories, revealing how ENVISION's work has changed people's lives for the better. The newest spotlight story is featured on the homepage of the site, and visitors can find a complete list through the main navigation as well.

Resources search.Geared more toward practitioners, on the other hand -- the "Resources" section contains reports, worksheets, handbooks and other tools for those in the field, as well as videos and other items of broader interest.

The collection of resources includes a robust search function that lets the user filter by country, disease, and type of resource, as well as language.

Search results take advantage of iconography to indicate the type of content (publication, video, etc.). These icons are used for the same purpose throughout other areas of the site, too.

Haiti landing pageEach of the countries where ENVISION works has a landing page that provides an overview description, plus photos, news items and resources specific to that country. It also highlights the partner organizations working in that country, and dynamically links to details about the diseases endemic to that country.

Disease landing pages also highlight related news items and resources.

Nearly everything on the site is categorized according to the diseases and countries to which it relates. Because of this, we were able to take advantage of one of Drupal's great strengths and create dynamic pages with lots of cross-referencing, which are simple and quick for staff to add and update as needed.
